I have downloaded and will probably try the new Microsoft Windows 7 BETA operating system. First I would like to know what current users think. Are there known issues?

Some dell computers are loaded with ubuntu linux as an operating system. I’ve heard that its more efficient than windows and crashes less. What are its advantages? If i were to get a dell laptop with unbuntu loaded on it would I have a tough time figuring out how to use it?

I’m running desktop Linux on my home computer, and I would like to know of a program I could use to find out the operating system of a remote web server. Is this possible? I know that web servers have access to information about the operating systems of client machines that view their website, but does something similar happen in reverse? The protocol is HTTP.

I am not liking the direction Vista and Windows 7 are taking with abandoning software compatibility concerns. Every home user out there that switches to Vista has to give up their software. It seems like theft of a new kind. Make an operating system that is incompatible with software you purchased just a year ago. Weird. Time to head over to Mac or try this Solaris, I think.

I am looking to buy a used PC through Ebay with Windows XP installed. Many of the PC listed say that they don’t come with an installed operating system but they give you license and OS restore disk. What does that mean? Why don’t they just come installed with the OS?

I have a 150gb hard drive containing my operating system (vista ultimate 64 bit) and all my programs. I have run out of space, and I want to buy a new 300gb hard drive and transfer the os and programs to it. Is there an easy way of simply duplicating the hard drive so I don’t have to reinstall everything?
