I was installing another operating system last week and it pretty much deleated my windows operating system. I can use the other linux operating system now but now I can’t play any of many games now even with WINE.

I have the recovery disks for my acer aspire 5610Z. Will this be able to fix my hard drive system and repair deleted master boot record?

The computer works fine. I want to get rid of the XP operating system so I can install a Linux operating system without having to deal with the existing OS (which frankly is getting in the way). I’ve got the install disk and everything for the Linux boot. I just want to get rid of XP completely and I can’t figure out how.

What linux distro is the most basic?

I am looking for an operating system that includes:

-command line
-no splash screen when booted
-nothing else.

i.e. do we have to vacant the C drive before installing the linux operating system?
