How do I soundproof my windows?
Monday, September 29th, 2008We own a 2-bedroom apartment that is right along some railroad tracks with trains whizzing by every few minutes during rush hour. I hear it’s impossible to completely soundproof a window but I’d like to do as much as I can to block out as much of the noise as possible. What are some things I can do that would avoid making my windows look hideous? Should I invest in double-paned windows if I plan on installing window air condition units? Or would the A/C opening completely defeat the purpose of such windows? What are alternative air conditioning solutions that don’t involve cutting holes in walls?
Also, what is laminated glass? How effective is that? Would replacing just the glass in my windows do the tricks or should we replace the entire window?
How best to protect windows agains a football?
Monday, September 29th, 2008Hi, we live on the ground floor with the living room windows overlooking a park where kids play football nearly every day. They broke one of our windows, we had it fixed and are thinking how to prevent it in the future. We thought to buy those metal things, you know like in the castle, like that fat iron mesh just cant recall what to call it and where to buy it. Or is it custom made only? Thanks for your advice.

A friend recommended trying Linux, because it was a powerful platform. From my research, Ubuntu looks nice. Please only answer if you use Linux!
